BLOGGERS REVIEW
In veins of what Korean did best to its sources, also a solid dose of comedy in action, Veteran beats Shaft and New Police Story relentlessly. Rating: ★★★★
Rating: ★★★1/2
Veteran is a highly enjoyable action comedy. What elevates Ryoo Seung-wan’s film from being a standard procedural pic is how well the comedy and slapstick stick to the story, even when things get really dark and bitter. Violence is abound, and you’ll hear cracks and wince every time the hero and the villain both take turns to punch and bleed. The only drawback is how starkly Do-chul and Tae-oh are depicted. While you’ll instantly root for Do-chul with his comically violent behavior, Tae-oh is lacking in more color and complexity. His violent tendency which affects men, women, children, and animal alike looks more like a laundry list for bad guys than a real personality. That said, you’ll find much satisfaction when the inevitable finally occurs at the end. Rating: ★★★1/2
