The documentary of the largest world tour in Japanese Music History, made into a film!

A film which covers extensively the WORLD TOUR 2012 of the four-member band pulling the Japanese music scene with its strong presence is finally released!!

This documentary film covers extensively the “WORLD TOUR 2012” held from March 3 to March 31, 2013 with 17 concerts across 14 countries attracted 450,000 people. Celebrating their 20th anniversary, L’Arc-en-Ciel made the challenge to have a huge scale world tour which had never heard in Japanese rock band history. This film records not only their powerful live scenes but also their precious footage of the backstage and offstage which have never been shown to the public.

The members show us their naked self, – a smile, confusion, excitement, and tension. They became the first Japanese artist holding a solo live at the palace of the music, Madison Square Garden. The film portrays the backstage of the great achievement so vividly that its graphic description becomes a real historic document. And what is the reason why members shed tears at the beautiful land with a rainbow?

An energetic and up –and-coming movie creator, Ray Yoshimoto born and raised in the US, was appointed as the director of the film in order to look at the band without any bias or prejudice. So either beginners or hard core fans of L’Arc-en-Ciel, can see hyde, ken, tetsuya and yukihiro with a fresh eye in this film.

Traveling along with the band throughout the tour, the director was more and more attracted to their music and the character of the members. After winning the trust from the band members, he could get closer to the members’ personal side. Furthermore, he captured the “phenomenon of L’Arc” with his global viewpoint, through the oversea media interview and fans’ reaction around the world.

This film describes the real story of the famous rock band that is not afraid of taking risk to challenge the world market even though they have reigned over the music industry in Japan for long time. The film tells you not only the naked charm of the band members but also “what the real professional is”? A universal masterpiece is born.

L’Arc~en~Ciel Profile

L‘Arc~en~Ciel is considered as one of the most influential Japanese bands in history with record sales in the millions and has the large international fan base. If you hear their unique melodies and edgy sounds even once, you will be captivated. hyde (Vocals), ken (Guitar), tetsuya (Bass), and yukihiro(Drums) make up the band called L’Arc-en-Ciel, formed in 1991.

It continues to mesmerize the music scene not only in Japan, but throughout the world. Ever since their debut, it’s seemed like the band has reserved a spot on the sales charts, because whatever year it is, they’ve got a hit song to match the times. In 1999, the band had the unprecedented idea to release the albums “ark” and “ray” simultaneously, and the group saw sales of over 4million units in Japan alone. That year, they embarked on the twelve-performance “1999 GRAND CROSS TOUR”, which was attended by 650,000 fans.It broke all kinds of records in the Japanese music scene.

The band’s music has evolved over the years to become so sexy and provocative that anyway who sees a live performance even once will find their feet compelled to move. So naturally, they’ve come to be very popular internationally as well. In 2004, the band performed in the USA (Baltimore) to an audience of 10,000 people; starting there, they moved on to Asia shows in China ( Shanghai and Hong Kong), Korea (Seoul), Taiwan( Taipei), and then to France (Paris), proving that L’Arc-en-Ciel’s popularity extends across borders. L’Arc-en-Ciel, the “monster band” from Japan, have sold a total of 40 million records and played 3 million people throughout their career.

In 2011, the band celebrated their 20th anniversary by the two-night show “20th L’Anniverary LIVE” at Tokyo’s Ajinomoto Stadium with 100,000 fans. The following “20th L’Anniversry TOUR” continued to 2012. After the “ 20th L’Anniversry TOUR, a world tour of Hong Kong, Bangkok, Shanghai, Taipei, New York, London, Paris, Singapore, Jakarta, Seoul, Yokohama, Osaka, Tokyo and Honolulu attracted more than 450,000 people with 17 shows.

In 2014, “L’Arc-en-Ciel LIVE 2014 at National Stadium” attracted 160,000 people with two days. This is the record of the number of the audience at National Stadium.
